Quick answer

The 30-day deadline is an action budget, not a real-time timer. Explore freely, check costs before committing, and finish the family rescue before the deadline.

Full spoilers below

What makes time pass?

The publisher confirms that exploration and ordinary combat do not advance the clock. Quests and certain marked decisions spend time. An hourglass shows the cost before you commit.

How do day and night work?

The current guide sources describe eight segments in each daytime and nighttime bar. Treat that as a planning model, not a promise that every optional quest will fit. The HUD shows the cost for your actual save.

Before an actionWhat to check
A quest or dialogue choiceThe displayed hourglass cost
A daytime or nighttime objectiveSun or moon requirement
An active timed objectiveBlue-clock warning in the journal
A major commitmentA separate manual save

Why can a quest charge time more than once?

A quest can begin without a charge and spend time at later steps. Check each prompt rather than subtracting the journal estimate twice. Optional conversations and different solutions can change the total.

What happens after the 30-day deadline?

Time running out does not end play immediately. The rescue outcome is lost and the story continues under changed circumstances. PowerPyx reports that the family is sacrificed and In the Nick of Time becomes unavailable on that save. Continuing after the deadline is different from unrestricted play after the credits.

A safe way to plan your next step

  • Scout a location before accepting a costly step.
  • Read active objectives and their warnings.
  • Save before spending time or starting a final route.
  • Prioritize the rescue if that is your goal; choose side stories within the remaining budget.

For stage deadlines, use the timed-quest guide. Before leaving a chapter, check missables and ending save points.
